Classic Fried Catfish Recipe...

This classic fried catfish recipe is a Southern favorite at the cottage.


  • 4 catfish fillets
  • cooking oil
  • 1½ cups yellow cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder


  1. Rinse fillets. Do not pat dry.
  2. Preheat cooking oil to 350 degrees in heavy skillet.
  3. Combine all dry ingredients in shallow dish. Place fillets into cornmeal mixture. Coat fillets evenly; shake off excess coating.
  4. Fry in hot oil, rounded side down, for 3 to 4 minutes. Turn fillets and cook 3 to 4 minutes. Drain on paper towel.
